Fairfax, Virginia – February 2025 – After successfully introducing entrepreneurship to thousands of girls, SheEO Academy® has been granted nonprofit 501c3 status by the Internal Revenue Service. This new designation will allow our award-winning founder and her girl empowerment programs to expand the impact to students from marginalized communities. The well-known program will continue to offer leadership and financial literacy programs to girls ages 6-16. With the additional support from the community, programming can now expand to sponsored camps and after-school clubs and mentoring. SheEO Academy® kicks off the first fundraising “CAMPaign” with a goal to host 125 female students in summer 2025 from Title I schools located in Northern Virginia.
"I am excited and proud to finally receive nonprofit designation," says DeShawn Robinson-Chew, Founder and Executive Director of SheEO Academy. "It is a game-changer, because it will allow an already successful program to expand its reach and impact by inspiring more girls to see themselves as female business leaders and owners. If you see it, you can be it!"
In recent years, SheEO Academy® has seen a growing interest for its programs from under-resourced communities. These girls often face unique challenges, such as lack of access to enrichment opportunities, because of transportation or income challenges, and limited opportunities for personal growth and professional development. This leads to lower confidence and an inability to see themselves pursuing careers as business leaders and owners. Not to mention, female business leaders themselves are still realizing lower earning rates and female business owners still receive lower amounts of venture capital than their male counterparts. Those disparities are even greater for diverse female founders.
"I have volunteered with girls from marginalized or diverse communities. I know they have the potential to be great leaders," says Christian Chew, SheEO Academy® board member and former camp participant and intern. "These girls often just need equitable experiences in order to reach their full potential. Our nonprofit status will allow us to provide those experiences and help girls that look like me to achieve their dreams."
The mission of SheEO Academy® is to empower the CEO in every girl by providing tools and training to help them lead and succeed in life and in business. When this mission is realized, girls will become confident, compassionate, and capable business leaders or owners. All programs will provide girls with a safe and supportive environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
